Overcoming Impostor Syndrome with Maria Marquis Thursday, June 12th | 5:30pm-7:30pm | HPSJ Community Room
Impostor Syndrome. That feeling that you're a fraud. That you don't belong. Usually our first reaction is dread, but there's some good news. Impostor Syndrome is also a sign that you're in the right place. A place of challenge and growth. If we can harness that energy into something proactive, nothing will get in our way. In this workshop, we'll explore the power of impostor syndrome as well as your personal triggers to develop an action plan for growth.
Data for Grants & Success with Jason Weiner Thursday, July 10th | 5:30pm-7:30pm | The NEST at United Way of San Joaquin
You know that your organization needs to collect data to prove your outcomes and win grant funding, but what data do you need and how will you get it? In this 2-hour workshop, you will learn the basics about the types of data that funders are looking for, how to collect it, and how to present it. More importantly, we will discuss how you can plan ahead to make sure that the data you submit with your grant applications and reports is the most useful to you and the success of your programs. Learn from instructor Jason Weiner, who has raised millions of grant dollars for his consulting clients and organizations like the Reinvent South Stockton Coalition. This workshop is an active practicum; bring your real-world examples of grant opportunities and/or report requirements so that we can help you plan for the data that you will need.
Bad, Good, and Great Boards with Kristen Birtwhistle Thursday, August 14th | 5:30pm-7:30pm | The NEST at United Way of San Joaquin
When people criticize local government, they’re usually referring to City Hall. But there’s another layer of governance that profoundly affects our county, and it gets relatively scant attention: the Boards that govern nonprofits. Nonprofits play a huge role across our county with over 2,000 agencies both large and small, employing over 21,000 part- and full-time staff and contributing billions, yes billions into our local economy. A good nonprofit Board of Directors can bring infinite wisdom to its charity. A bad one can create a firestorm. The role of the Board is essential to the governance of a nonprofit as it controls its mission, strategic direction and ultimately, its financial stability and sustainability. And while a good board will lift up an organization to become it’s best. A bad Board of Directors will kill the passion, the vision and the ability for the CEO to lead. In this session, you will learn about the critical steps to take to turn from a bad board to a great board. Between case studies, tools, assessments and the role of the CEO vs. the Board itself. In short, game changing.
